ALLIANCE FOR BUILDING REGULATORY REFORM IN THE DIGITAL AGE
NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP TO STREAMLINE GOVERNMENT

How to Get Involved in the Alliance / National Partnership

As a public – private partnership the Alliance at FIATECH both invites the participation of and seeks the input and support of government agencies, private sector firms, trade associations, public interest groups, information technology firms, consumers and all who are interested in support the Alliance Vision of:

"Providing information and materials that help state and local governments strengthen public safety, economic competitiveness and disaster resiliency."

How can you get involved?   Listed below are four possible ways that you can consider.

1.  BECOME A MEMBER OF THE ALLIANCE at FIATECH, the FIATECH Streamlining Project

Over the years a number of Alliance Members and Partners have provided direct financial support to our Streamlining initiatives by either funding the development of certain streamlining materials including: the HUD Guide; 8-Page Elected Officials Guide; Surveys on uses of electronic plans submittal, review and tracking; and the Survey on Return on Investment from Using Information Technology; the annual CD-ROM update reports to the Governors, Mayors and Counties, and sponsorship of the National Streamlining Conference. If your company, association, government agency is interested in assisting in the funding of any of these materials please contact our Alliance Secretary as noted above.

In addition since moving the Alliance into FIATECH in the summer of 2007, FIATECH and the Alliance have opened up FIATECH membership categories to state and local governments and to the private sector to become full members of FIATECH and/or participate in a Jurisdiction Committee that holds bi-monthly conference calls on streamlining topics including e-Plan Review, mobile field inspection technologies, and other topics that help jurisdictions improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of their programs.

You can learn more about FIATECH and FIATECH Streamlining project membership by visiting the FIATECH website at: www.fiatech.org

2.  PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS/ ATTEND CONFERENCES

Another way to get involved is to watch for future streamlining conference and workshop notices and register and attend them.

The FIATECH Streamlining Project's next sessions will be held within the upcoming FIATECH 2009 Technology Conference and Showcase that is being held at the Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas, April 6-8. Included in that program will be two sessions – one on the actions that your company/jurisdiction/association can take to identify and remove barriers to effective and efficient land use and building regulatory processes and a presentation by the Alliance and Clark County, NV sharing actions that jurisdiction has taken to streamline and apply information technology to their codes administration and enforcement program.

Details on the FIATECH Technology Conference and Showcase including registration forms are found on the FIATECH website at: www.fiatech.org

In addition to the above a second National Streamlining Conference is being tentatively considered for sometime in late 2009 and the Alliance is considering participating in several regional or state streamlining programs later this year. These events and registration information will be posted on this website.

3.  FEEDBACK

Your feedback to us on the content of this website, our streamlining information, products and materials are important to us. We need your candid assessment of the usefulness of our work products, the content of our conferences/workshop and the usefulness and ease of navigation of this website.

Please share your thoughts/comments with our Secretary, Robert Wible by emailing him at either: wible@fiatech or rcwible@comcast.net or phone him at 703-568-2323

4.  SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES

We are aware of over 112 state and local jurisdictions that have made use of one or more of our streamlining models and materials over the past four years. To help us better evaluate the effectiveness of those materials and to share both the success stories and the problems being faced by state and local jurisdictions undertaking streamlining we need you to share with us your experiences in these areas – the good, the bad and in some cases the down right ugly.

What barriers did you encounter? How did you overcome them?

Do you have any lessons learned from your experiences that you are willing to share with other jurisdictions? With other companies? Other associations?

Did you come up with an innovative streamlining practice or use of information technology?

Did you make use of any of our streamlining materials in your effort? If so, which ones and how were they useful?

Are there improvements or changes we should make to our models and materials that came out of your experience? As noted above - please share these with us by contacting our Secretary Robert Wible.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND POTENTIAL FUTURE INVOLVEMENT WITH THE ALLIANCE at FIATECH, the FIATECH Streamlining Project

WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU SOON!
